Shopify Product Page Optimisation: Turn Browsers into Buyers

How to optimise your Shopify product pages for higher conversion rates — photos, descriptions, social proof, and layout.

Your Product Page Is Your Sales Page

On marketplaces like Amazon and Etsy, the platform does some of the selling for you — trust badges, reviews, Prime delivery. On Shopify, your product page has to do all the heavy lifting. Every element needs to earn the buyer's trust and move them towards the purchase.

Photography

The single biggest factor in Shopify conversion rates is your product photography. Marketplace sellers moving to Shopify often underestimate this because Amazon compresses everything into a standard format.

  • Minimum 5 images per product — hero shot, multiple angles, lifestyle/in-use, scale reference, detail/texture
  • White background + lifestyle — include both. White background shows the product clearly; lifestyle images show it in context
  • Consistent style — all your product photos should look like they belong together. Same lighting, same editing style
  • Zoom-worthy quality — minimum 2000x2000px so buyers can zoom in on details

Product Description Structure

Don't write a wall of text. Structure your description for scanning:

  • Opening hook (1-2 sentences) — what problem does this solve or what desire does it fulfil?
  • Key features in bullet points — the 4-6 most important things about the product
  • Detailed description — materials, dimensions, care instructions. This is also your SEO content
  • Social proof — "Over 500 sold" or "Rated 4.8/5 by customers" inline if possible
  • FAQ or common questions — address objections before they become reasons not to buy

Trust Elements

Shopify stores need more trust signals than marketplace listings because buyers can't rely on Amazon/Etsy's buyer protection. Include:

  • Reviews visible on the product page — not hidden behind a tab
  • Clear returns policy — link it prominently
  • Shipping information — estimated delivery date, not just "3-5 working days"
  • Trust badges — payment security, money-back guarantee
  • Contact information — even just "Questions? Email us at..." reduces anxiety

Mobile-First Design

60-70% of your Shopify traffic is mobile. Check every product page on your phone:

  • Can you see the Add to Cart button without scrolling?
  • Are the images large enough to see details?
  • Is the text readable without zooming?
  • Does the page load in under 3 seconds?

Pricing and Buy Box

Your price needs context. If you're premium, show why (materials, craftsmanship, comparison to alternatives). If you're competitive, show the original or RRP price with a struck-through comparison. Include clear payment options — Klarna/ClearPay for items over £30 can increase conversion by 20-30% in the UK.
