Product research is where Amazon success begins. Choose the wrong product and no amount of marketing will save you. Here is the data-driven approach.
Demand Validation
Use search volume data to confirm demand exists. If nobody is searching for your product, you have a problem. Tools like Helium 10, Jungle Scout, and Amazon Brand Analytics provide this data.
Competition Analysis
Analyse the first page of search results. How many reviews do the top sellers have? How good are their listings? How competitive are PPC bids? A page of sellers with 5,000 or more reviews is a harder market to crack.
Margin Calculation
Calculate your landed cost, FBA fees, PPC cost per unit, and selling price. If your margin after all costs is below 20 percent, the product is risky. Target 30 percent or higher net margin.
Differentiation
Read 1 to 3 star reviews of competing products. What are customers complaining about? Can you solve those problems? This is your differentiation opportunity.
